Toughest 21.1km in a while..
Day started off by me having to wake up at 4am to go do a 21km run in stellenbosch (Winelands Half-Marathon).. I'm sure you don't really care about the details (if you are anything like me).. So let me just put it like this.
I started off thinking I was fresh (I had been suffering from some serious calf muscle cramps the entire week due to crazy kung fu training last week sat). At about the 10km mark I suddenly realised I wasn't as fresh as I thought!.. Calves started cramping, but a sub 1:43 time was still on the cards..
Then comes the Kilometers 11,12,13.. Worst km's of my life
Messed up all my hard work I had put in for the first 10km's, and then had to push really hard the last 8 just to break 1:45.. Unfortunately with serious calf pain and the blisters that look liked flesh that seemed more at home on a Zombie from "The Walking Dead" (epic TV show) I just couldn't crack sub 1:45
.
I did still manage a 1:45:50 though ![]()
The run itself was quite standard, it had its mix of some very boring sections, but it also had some epic breathtaking Stellenbosch winelands sections (which also happen to be km's 11,12,13)
The run :
P.s. You will notice that it is 21.2km's.. My brother argues that Garmin is incorrect, but somehow I highly doubt that..
Landmarks 21.1km.. First sub 1:45!!

In a race that has almost 300m elevation gain, 186m as a max elevation gain, at an average pace of 4:45, max heart rate of 190bpm my first sub 1:45 21km was not all fairies and butterflies!
But hey, I finally did it! Smashed my previous 21km PB by over 8mins!(2oceans half)
Big shout out to my bro who paced me for the first 16km's... Think I would have blown before that hadn't he helped.
Race Details
Note : You will notice that my moving time is more than my "time". That is because I started my watch early ><
So my official watch time is 1:45:04, but my actual race time is 1:44:45!
Next up! Winelands!
Isostar 15km Race details
Ran this Tokai Isostar race this morning (after giving blood on the thursday evening).. I would not recommend running any kind of race less than 36hr after giving blood..
That being said, I still enjoyed the race even though my times weren't idea. Only managed to run a 5:20 per km avg pace instead of my usual sub 4:45, but hey.. You can't win them all!

The start of the TMC
39th for the teams category, 20th For "All Mens" teams, in a time of 4:49 the "2 Red Devils and a Liverbird" smashed the old Kooyman's TMC record by one and a half hours, with me trimming over an hour off my previous best, and Leighton and Ben adding their share of trimmings.
We are already planning to shave another 30mins off this time for next year!!
For all of you not in the know..
